The House of Representatives has passed the Palliative Care and Hospice Education and Training Act (PCHETA). The bill will now move on to the Senate.
PCHETA would increase the number of permanent faculty in palliative care at accredited medical, nursing, and social work schools, and other programs; promote education and research in palliative care and hospice and support the development of faculty careers in academic palliative medicine. The legislation enjoys widespread public support. PCHETA will be a critical tool in the fight against the provider shortage. If current trends continue, providers across all fields will have difficultly maintaining minimum staff levels, let alone growing their business.
