DOJ to Bring Criminal Charges Against “Worst of the Worst” Nursing Homes

The DOJ is making a push to identify criminal charges that can be brought against nursing homes and staff accused of abusing and defrauding elderly patients. The DOJ’s civil division has historically used the False Claims Act to pursue nursing homes that bill the federal government for services not rendered or poor quality care. In an effort to protect seniors, the DOJ will be looking at nursing homes with high instances of  bed sores and infections, malnutrition, and other patient welfare issues.
